Mr. Chokshi, a chemist by profession, started Grand Polycoats, more popularly known as GP, in the year 1981. The spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation took him to Germany in 1983, where he learnt about new technologies in paints and coatings, namely Polyurethane.

He started experimenting with small batches in his kitchen, making 1-2 litres at night and seeking customers in the day. He then loaned out a shed from a friend and put up a small scale manufacturing facility, with only three people.
